“These people come near to me with their mouth and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (Isaiah 29:13) “主說,因為這百姓親近我,用嘴唇尊敬我,心卻遠離我。他們敬畏我,不過是領受人的吩咐。”(以賽亞書29:13)

意思

平常我們說的某人很會用lip service,實際上指他們只是說一套做一套,並不會把自己所說付諸行動。

聖經舊約里提到,上帝看到世人單奉他的名而沒有付諸實踐時感到很不以為然。在那時,法利賽人很熟悉圣經,他們雖擁有豐富圣經知識,為信徒制定嚴格條例,內里卻是偽君子。他們教世人愛人如己,但自己卻沒有實踐上帝的愛。上帝通過以賽亞這位先知道出了他的失望, “主說,因為這百姓親近我,用嘴唇尊敬我,心卻遠離我。他們敬畏我,不過是領受人的吩咐。”(以賽亞書29:13)
