“Eat, drink and be merry”是在餐廳或休閑雜誌裡常見的一個短語。在酒吧里度過的歡樂時光(happy hour)就有“吃喝玩樂”的含意 。那麼，“吃喝玩樂”跟聖經有甚麼關聯呢？ 這個短語記載于大衛王之子所羅門王所寫的傳道書里。作者是一個聰明睿智的以色列國王。他在后期創作了許多至理名言，并被收錄於舊約圣經的“箴言”和“傳道書”里。 他在晚年反思人生的意義，寫成了傳道書。在圣經里說“人在日光之下，莫強如吃喝快樂…”，這說法容易讓人認為他是一個享樂主義者和游手好閑之徒。但從更深層的意義來說，作者是把上帝賦予永生之無限，與凡人生命之有限作一對照。
